Day 25: A Boar-ing Day?

It's 8.45am and Said has still not been around to collect the money we give him daily to buy our fresh bread from the local village; we are concerned that maybe he is ill, but decide to leave it a little longer till we go to his little house to check if he is okay. It is about 9.10am when he calls around with the news that he was awoken at 2.00am by the dogs howling and growling ferociously. He then proceeds to tell us that there are wild boar roaming around this area and there is one that has just had babies living at the bottom of our garden by the river! Yikes! Apparently the dogs attack wild boar if they see them, and Said is worried that his dogs might attack the babies, hence he was up at 2am checking all was okay. How exciting...now we know we are living in the wilds of Morocco!

Wild Boar!

On the subject of babies, Mrs Dog is going to have pups! I think I told you we have three dogs here, two of them being known as Mr and Mrs Dog as they have no names. Well, Mrs Dog is now quite heavily pregnant - don't ask how we haven't noticed before! She is so lovely - black, sleek coat and a gentle nature - she wags her tail every time she sees us now and allows us to venture a little closer before running away. Her favourite spot to lie in the garden is by my washing line. I wonder what Said will do with all the pups...I'm hoping they are born safely and don't need any human intervention as Mrs Dog won't allow anyone near, even Said. Maybe we'll get to nurture one of the pups...but then what will happen to it when we return to the UK? I'm not sure if that's such a good idea...we'll see....

During our conversation with Said this morning we tell him that he can use the new washing machine if he wants to and show him where the washing powder is kept; he doesn't understand at first and says that he will use the old one to wash his clothes. When it finally dawns on him that we are saying he can use the new one, his little face lights up - such a small gesture from us (which anyone would assume would be the case anyway) appears to really make his day...simple things....
